Ford is graciously flying me into Detroit on Friday to show me something top secret, and — as I don’t have any obligations that evening — I figure it’s time to have the first Detroit-area Autopian meetup since I moved to LA. It’ll be like the good ol’ days, except I won’t have a car of my own. But that’s okay, because nobody was there to see my rusty shitboxes, we were there to meet other car-crazed Autopians. So let’s do this!
The Autopian has been around only 13 months, but boy have we had some meetups in Detroit. A quick Google search reveals at least six, and then add on the meetups I hosted back when I worked for The German Lighting Site, and I feel like we had something going, there. Anyway, let’s keep it rolling; I don’t have to live in Detroit for all of us to meet up and have a great time.
So tomorrow, Friday, May 5th — Cinco de Mayo — let’s meet up at the classiest spot in suburban Detroit: Troy’s Walmart parking lot.
- What: An Autopian meetup! A way to gaze at cars and make friends.
- Where: Troy Walmart parking lot: 2001 W Maple Rd, Troy, MI 48084
- When: This Friday, May 5. 6:30 P.M. to 8 P.M.
- Why?: Because the weather is finally decent and also cars are cool and so are new friends
- Who: All Autopians!
- How?: Ideally you’ll drive a car. If it’s broken, then take an Uber! That’s what I’ll be doing.
Join the Detroit-Area Autopian Readers Facebook page. There is a possibility that my flight — set to land at 5:10 P.M.— will be delayed, but in any case, the meeting will go on. Nick Hernandez, the world’s foremost Pontiac Vibe whisperer, will then run the event (which, lets be honest, involves doing nothing but standing around and maybe guiding one or two people into a parking spot).
We should really have a page for other Autopian meet ups. Small events that could be organized by a one of the fans.
Why not? Editors? Comments?
My wife and I will be in downtown RO until around probably 8PM…so I may very well drag her there afterwards if people haven’t left by then…
We’ll just have the (Cruze) diesel, which is interesting enough, and cleanish (it’s not, but it isn’t horrendous, either).
This is just me talking crazy. Do you think Ford might introduce a small hybrid vehicle that everyone will want and then they’ll purposely never make enough to meet demand and hope people will just give up and buy a more expensive version? It could happen.
I keep reading this headline as “Detroit friendly Autopians” and wonder what that means.
Anyways, you folks have fun and don’t forget bring your favorite fluid film or NH oil!
Did you put some cars in storage?
There is a 3 row pickup in the works….
glad this is still happening. I was in metro detroit last week. I drove by the former Tracy Residence and its not the same without the random Jeep and Kia just sitting there.
Is this the grand reveal of the 5.0L Mach E?
Is Ford reviving the Flex as an EV? The Explorer R? New EcoSport? The Puma ST coming stateside? The Mustang Mach E Dark Horse? Maverick Raptor?
Less exciting but still cool maybe – the Evos becomes the U.S.-market Focus Active we were once promised?
Hopefully the reveal is simply their current product line, built properly and actually available to customers.
Is Ford introducing a new vehicle that whose launch wont be a massive fail?
Bronco Raptor R?
Mustang 7.3?
I mean it’s probably some Mach-E variant, but I can dream, right?
I’m hoping you mean they’re bringing back the old 7.3l turbo-diesel!
F that, I drained thousands into a money pit 7.3 diesel and swore them off forever along with all oil burners.
“Introducing the Mustang Power Stroke! Now you can tow your boat as you slide into a crowd!”
I would buy that tomorrow.
