How much would you pay to essentially be Bruce Wayne for brief periods of time? That’s the question posed by the Pininfarina B95 Gotham electric hypercar. This thing’s actually a collaboration between Pininfarina and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, which means that yes, the “Gotham” in the name is that Gotham. Talk about a weird blending of brands, right?
In case you aren’t familiar with the Pininfarina B95, let me give you the run-down. It’s a 1,877-horsepower all-electric Italian hypercar that doesn’t have a fixed windshield. Nuts, right? Its makers claim it can accelerate from zero-to-60 mph in less than two seconds, and it was styled by the same company that penned every pretty Ferrari and some of the ugly ones, too. With a price tag of $4.8 million for the standard car, it’s anyone’s guess what this one-off will go for.
So, what makes the Pininfarina B95 Gotham special? Well, it lays the Bruce Wayne iconography on heavy. From Wayne Enterprises badges on the bodywork to what Pininfarina calls a “Wayne Enterprises-inspired HMI display,” the branding tie-in is very much real. Pininfarina also claims the voice assistant in the infotainment is “inspired by Alfred Pennyworth,” although I have a feeling Michael Caine probably didn’t lend his voice to this one.
If there’s one bit of this silver speed machine that might go a bit too far, it’s the driver’s side door plate, which Pininfarina says “is laser-engraved with the words “All men have limits…I ignore mine.”” It’s a quote from the comic series, but man, it feels a little off-key in the context of a multi-million-dollar car. Or perhaps so blatantly pitch-corrected to on-key it makes you want to roll your eyes backwards into your skull. You decide.
It’s worth noting that the B95 Gotham isn’t the only Batman-related hypercar. It may be the only one at The Quail in Monterey, but Pininfarina will build four Bruce Wayne-themed one-offs: This B95 Gotham, a B95 Dark Knight, a fixed-roof Battista Gotham hypercar, and a Battista Dark Knight. That’s all well and good, but you can’t help but wonder if the overlap between car nerds in deep enough to know what Pininfarina is, massive Batman enthusiasts, and people who can blow millions on another toy, is more than two people. There’s a chance these cars trade mostly on the Wayne Industries iconography, but even then, it seems like a bit of a stretch.
There’s also no obvious connection between Pininfarina and Batman, as there’s no indication that an electric Pininfarina hypercar will appear in a Batman film anytime soon, nor has one played a supporting role in the past. You might recall in the Dark Knight Trilogy, Bruce Wayne drove Lamborghinis, two Murcielagos and an Aventador. A gated Murcielago and money in the bank, or this co-branded electric hypercar? Hmm. Things to think about.

The source of my car nerd shit is more cop cars (not being a Jeremy Dewitte type rolling around in a blacked out CVPI with pushbar, but more “buying diecast models with cool designs and lights”) so I’d rather spend the money replicating the cars of Gotham’s finest and trying to “catch” the nerd in this thing.
I’d rather have an exact replica of the Tumbler. Or the Arkham Asylum Batmobile. Or the TAS Batmobile. Or an IRL version of the Speedwagon from the Lego Batman movie. Literally any actual Batmobile, I’d even settle for the Super Friends version.

Since “Gotham” was a nickname for New York that was used for its fictional counterpart in the comics, isn’t this really just a new and outrageously expensive version of the Chrysler New Yorker? And will there be a Superman-inspired version that builds on Pinon Farina’s own design work for Nash that became the house style adapted for the Metropolitan?

Pardon my utterly pointless rant because the car is obviously and completely cosplay, but I’m going to go full flame mode on a silly detail exemplifying how stupidly cosplay this car is:
First of all, this is clearly not a track car – in fact, I doubt any of the examples will see any significant mileage or usage. On track cars, particularly those with round, relatively featureless steering wheels I understand why it can be quite useful to have the “piece of tape” marking the top center of the steering wheel. But on this car, that again, will never see a track day in its life, with a steering wheel whose directionality is already incredibly well defined, and with the “piece of tape” decoration being the same color as and visually not very distinguishable from the color of so much of the rest of the wheel – what in the world was the point? It’s completely, utterly ridiculous and in my admittedly not very knowledgeable opinion of design detracts from the appearance of the steering wheel without adding any useful functionality.
Probably has something to do with the machine guns and rocket launchers being hard to aim when you are turning a corner

Have they carefully judged that no women would waste multi-millions on a car that’s only link to a comic is that quote and some badges, or are they assuming that any female customer owns a limited man and ignores him?

Based on the number of black sports cars I see around here that have vanity plates that say BATMOBL or B4TMAN, DK NITE or some variation, I’d say the car enthusiast-BatFan-douchebag Venn diagram overlap is sizable enough to make this project worthwhile.

The most fictional thing about Batman is that Wayne Enterprises makes it’s money by inventing things and creating products not by hedging financial instruments for a quick buck.
